Xinshuang Jin and Christina Lai, two female artists from Chinese and American cultural backgrounds, created the piano ensemble Eirene Duo. Their duo works to blend their musical interpretations, while preserving their individual styles. Through the joy of collaboration, the piano duo aims to explore and promote great works by lesser known composers, especially female artists. Ranging from classical music to contemporary music, the duo’s repertoire is inspired by diverse world cultures, including folk tunes, concrete music, and world music.
The Eirene Duo invokes the name of the ancient Greek goddess of peace (Eirene, known to the Romans as Pax). True peace is the result of social, spiritual and political activism, bringing the marginalized to light, listening to their message and celebrating their achievements.
As devoted performers, teachers, and chamber musicians, both members work to engage with diverse communities at the local and international level through master classes, lectures, and concerts. They continually support the writing of living composers and have most recently commissioned the work Lavelatla by Ian Guthrie.
